Jackie Mason’s Schmucks May 19, 2007

Collins an inmprint of HarperCollinsPublishers has released a funny albeit wrong book by Jackie Mason and Raoul Feder. This is basicly a list of people they do not like and why. It is funny and most will agree with them, but at the same time is it worth the price to buy? I love Jackie but even I would only check this out of the library- good thing both authors have day jobs.

Making War To Keep Peace May 19, 2007

This is Jeane Kirkpatrick’s final work before her death and that is a shame. The book is a review of the last 15 years of U.S. foreign policy and the reasons why we are where we are at. The book unfortunately is quite boring for those that are avid news readers, but could really be a boon to the reader who has been in a coma for quite sometime.

I am so sorry that this is her last work, but I will be content to read her articles from the past.

Spiderman 3 – A Sign Of Hollywood’s Contempt May 18, 2007

On Vacation, we tend to go to the movies during the hot part of the day and use the morning and late afternoons for the beach. So our first trip to the metroplex featured the blockbuster Spiderman 3. What a waste of money.

I have a hate relationship with most movies. It was not always that way, but I have come to the conclusion that most filmmakers believe their audience is comprised of idiots and morons. Their work shows a constant contempt for the thinkers amongst us. I have never seen such crap on the screen that the media is fawning over as if it was the second coming. The waste of money that was used for this film could have gone to make at least 80 decent films. Spiderman is no longer the dejected loser from the first two films. Instead, he is a narcissistic creep that is dealing with the fans and pressures of being a superhero with a hot chick to date! This film not only was stupid, not bothering to even explain the villains, but it was boring to boot-a far worse crime in my book.

It is movies like this that are killing Hollywood. A blockbuster dumb movie sells more, but it provides no pleasure or entertainment-only a time waster for feeble minds. The special effects were a waste of money-looking cartoonish. All in all, this was not the way to begin a summer of movies

USA Today – All The “News” Thats Unfit May 18, 2007

I love Newspapers- or rather I love the idea of Newspapers. It seems that they are all failing and you cannot feel sorry for them and their self-inflicted wounds. Forgetting the gutting of features and book reviews, look at the coverage. Fort Dix was not a front page news story for USA Today. When I was on vacation, the protests of 200,000 people in Israel was covered in the back of the paper while the front page was adorned with A-Rod and a slump he was either in or out of- I did not bother to read the coverage-sport is not of that importance. Yet with failing circulation, the medias real desire to provide the circuses (get your bread elsewhere) has a lot to do with it. I, myself refuse to subscribe to the various “newspapers” for definite reasons. Lack of original coverage, gutting of local news, overall leftist drivel, and most important- lack of talented writers are the reasons I have shied away from the papers. A tedious read does nothing for you. An exciting paper should not be that hard to release, but the drones of the left have no humor and it shows with the lack of wit and wisdom that they publish.

Back to USA Today- they are called the McPaper for good reason- it is junk food for the mind. It neither increases knowledge nor informs. It seems to be a con job that allows drivel into the mainstream. One should be ashamed to work for such a trite low end publication, but they are instead self-satisfied and it shows.

Cold Feet-A Great Series May 18, 2007

Cold Feet is by far the cream of the crop of british tv. A rich and lovely series abot three couples in different phases of relationships. the main focus is on Adam and Rachael played supurbly by James Nesbitt and the beautiful Helen Baxendale. They are the “new phase” of love as they meet and start dating. The focus of the show could be construed as a soap, if it were not for the deft way everything is handled throughout the series. Thought and care went in from the very beginning and the talent of the actors comes through at every step in every scene. Never has a show been better cast as this one. Robert Bathurst is a stand out as David Marsden, whose evolution throughout the show is quite remarkable. It is a shame that the entire series is not available to North America, but a region 2 DVD can be found on Ebay quite easily. The quality of the DVDs are ok, but the series its self are more than the lack of extras. Waste no time on other dreck, this show is a gem.

AJC’s Cynthia Tucker Wins Pulitzer May 18, 2007

We should say congratulations to Ms. Tucker. Then we should realize that these awards are truly meaningless. Ms. Tucker’s win is symbolic of the charge that the Pulitzers are given to any leftist that they can find. Growing up reading her columns, I was always astounded that the paper published them. When she was made an editor, I did not know what to think. Her columns were always rather partisan leftists dogmatic non-sense and the rest of the paper became that as well. I know few people that even subscribe to the AJC, its glory years long gone. It is the only paper for Atlanta and its suburbs, a monopoly of illegible leftist “thought” and boring writing. Ms. Tucker’s work is in that same vain. I do not fault her for the win, that is simply what the award has become and so be it. The AJC and the Tucker column are still a shameful read.

Bob Newhart Book Great For Non-Fans May 18, 2007

I picked up the Bob Newhat’s New book “I Shouldn’t Be Doing This”. I read the book in two and a half hours, for 232 pages. It is a recap of his act and career up to this point (I hope he has many more years to come). I have long been a fan of Newhart, loving his stand-up and all the sitcoms (including “Bob”) I have followed his career fir most of my young life. I always loved his wit and the fact that he is a clean comic, never having to be crass to get a laugh.

As much as I enjoyed the book, there was not much new there for the avid fan. It is a great introduction to Bob for the newcomer to the Button Down mind. I hope everyone makes this book a bestseller, it deserves to be so.

Network TV Killing Itself Fast May 18, 2007

How many times does Fox Network bump a show and then wonder why there is no following. The Network that remade the News Business on cable is the worse programmer of the Networks. It is sad because i believe they tend to have the edge on quality writing. Case in point- Bones. This is a second season show that Fox has bumped a least twelve weeks of the season. How does such a show retain an audience? Same thing with the New Ron Livingston series-Stand off. Started early and then pulled for baseball, then pulled for American Idol. All the same time Fox only programs two hours a night and there have been nothing but repeats of House MD and whatever filler shows that lack anyone watching.

NBC is the same. They bump show after show and constant reruns, it is a big deal if Thursday nights have a new episode for every show programmed. It is sloppy and off putting to people that want to watch what the networks have to offer. Do they wonder why there are few must see shows? Or do they not realize that no one really cares anymore since the networks do not care to produce and schedule a constant slew of programming. With 22 episodes a full season, they already factor in 30 weeks of pre-emption and reruns. They could run two full seasons of show and gain a wider share, but it takes money to make money and the networks are too stupid to realize that. Left to their own devices you get My Mother, The Car and When Animals Attack…

Christopher Hitchens Eviscerates Tenet and His Book May 18, 2007

Showing why he is one of the best writers around, Hitchens destroys Tenet in this essay. I had earlier written my response, but again I fill like Tenent is a creep and maybe even the most inept man to ever lead the C.I.A.
